You, the atheist

Proud you were always
not to have a higher power
feeling so evolved …
I held hope in a god or gods of sorts
“this can’t be all there is”
I’d pray
Until I met you, and I didn’t need
an afterlife
I had a new faith
restored in my every second
every minute
every day
Salvation in the form of
kisses on Sundays and
unwavering hands to catch me
when I’d fall
For the first time I could say
there is no god, no need for
anything else
only us, only now.
I believed only in you
and me
and love
turning to the
unholiest of trinities —
my own hell in the end
